Torremolinos is one of the tourist places in the Costa del Sol in Spain. The history of Torremolinos is very interesting. The name Torremolinos is coming from Torre (Tower) and Molinos (Mill). This was because in the past there were a lot of watermills. One of the watermills still exists and now serves as a restaurant.

If you come by plane you flight on Malaga airport. Torremolinos is only 15 minutes drive from the Airport. You can also go by train what is a very good connection from the Airport to Torremolinos. In Torremolinos and area there are many things to do and to see. One of the biggest attractions from Torremolinos is the beach with cozy bars and fine restaurants. In the area are various theme and amusement parks for children but also for adults. There are golf courses, a botanical garden, cinemas and a great choice of restaurants and bars.

In Torremolinos is also Castle Bil-Bil this castle looks like an Arab building. The building is surrounded by benches and a fountain. Inside there is a marble floor with nice decoration. Next to Castle Bil-Bil there is a Starbucks. Everybody knows Starbucks and know that you can get the most best coffee in the world.

Marbella, in Málaga, Spain : History, places and advice

Marbella, Málaga, Spain

Marbella, in Málaga, Spain

What to say about Marbella?

Marbellas motto is -A Way of Life- and, certainly, this luxurious resort town seems to have it all and is rising as a preferred location with the rich and famous, as well as more ordinary folk who are willing to pay just a little bit extra for southern Spain’s paradise. Marbella has a more popular side as well, which can be best appreciated by going into the old part of town.

Be sure to explore the surrounding narrow streets where homes and shops create the atmosphere of a small village, rather than a cosmopolitan town. There are numerous excellent restaurants to choose from, ranging from those specialising in pricey exclusive food, or a backstreet Spanish bar where the Serrano ham is gently cured by tobacco smoke and the tapas are both tasty and filling. I prefer the latter.

Some history : Unbelievably Marbella is a very very old town, with its roman, arab, and christian history, ruins and landmarks. Too much to talk about here, and we will do that on our Landmarks and Interesting Places Section. Nevertheless her we have some : ” Archaeological excavations have been made around Marbella. Its believed that the first settlement on the present site was Phoenicians. However, no remains have been found of any significant settlement, although some artefacts have been unearthed in different parts of the municipality.

The existence of a Roman centre is suggested by three capitals embedded in one section of the Moorish castle walls, the reused materials of a building from earlier times. Discoveries at the School Street testify to Roman occupation as well. There are ruins of other Roman settlements along the Rio Verde and Guadalmina, the Roman baths at Guadalmina, and the ruins of a Roman villa and the early basilica at Vega del Mar. At this time, the city was called Salduba

For more history (i must admit i love roman and prehistoric times), check out the Wikipedia, which is very complete in this case : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marbella

After World War II, Marbella was a small jasmine-lined village with only 900 inhabitants. Ricardo Soriano moved to Marbella and popularised it among his rich and famous friends. His nephew, Prince Alfonso of Hohenlohe, acquired Finca Santa Margarita, which would become the Marbella Club, an international resort of movie stars, business executives and the nobility. Both these resorts would be frequented by members of European aristocratic families transforming Marbella into a destination for the international jet set.

In our section of “what to do” we will focus at the Night Life and Fiestas of Marbella.

The castle is hardly restored so it is making a little wilted. But it is really worth it.

One of the special things from Fuengirola is the market which is every Tuesday.
This is El Mercadillo, one of the largest outdoor markets on the coast. This is a very famous place for tourists.

One of the popular festivals in Fuengirola is Feria de los Pueblos. This is a festival that takes place at the fairground. There are about 30 eateries who all present a different country. You can learn about the traditions of every country in the field of folklore, dance and gastronomy.
